BRINGING THE ROOF DOWN IN CROWLE

West Yorkshire Brass has been asked to cancel an upcoming engagement on 25th May 2019 in St. Oswald’s Church, Crowle.

In the process of repairing the church clocktower, workmen have discovered rotting timbers in the roof structure of the church itself. This may have been the bands best opportunity to literally bring the roof down at one of their concerts.

No doubt more repair funds will be raised and the concert will go ahead at some future date.

BEANS SPILLED AT BAND DINNER

WY Brass held its Annual Band Dinner at Cleckheaton Golf Club on Friday 29th March 2019.

43 members and guests enjoyed an excellent meal of the Clubs usual very high standard.

Short speeches from the Secretary and Musical Director revealed the appointment of a new Band President – Duncan Brown, a presentation to Charles ‘Chic’ Sutton for 25yrs. service to the band, and a unanimous vote of thanks to Betty Emberton for organising the event.

It’s the editors privilege to ‘spill the beans’ on the usual ‘Ale Carts’ who were last out of the door shortly before midnight.

West Yorkshire Brass ~ Annual General Meeting

At 7.00pm. on Tuesday 15th January the band held its Annual General Meeting, prior to the evening’s rehearsal.

In brief:-
Band Secretary: Keith Shuttleworth, presented the minutes of the 2018 AGM which were approved as being a true record.

Treasurer: Betty Emberton, reported the band’s finances to be in good order, despite substantial spending throughout the previous twelve months. She also announced that she had negotiated with staff at Cleckheaton Golf Club and it had been agreed that the band will hold their Annual Band Dinner at the club on 29th March 2019. (Further details to follow at a later date).

Musical Director: Peter Hellawell, praised members of the band for their performances during the preceding twelve months, relating many good comments from a substantial number of members of our audiences at the numerous venues throughout the year. He thanked the members for their support and encouraged them to maintain the standard throughout the busy 2019 season ahead.

Members holding the band’s official posts of Musical Director, Secretary, Treasurer, Librarian and Website Manager were unanimously re-elected for the coming year. Peter Marsh, having moved away from the Bradford area, is no longer certain to be able to manage the role of ‘Band Sergeant’ on every required occasion.

WELL DONE WEST YORKSHIRE BRASS, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
